In the IRB rankings as at 04.10.2010, Switzerland is ranked 63rd (out of 95). In the European organisation (FIRA-AER) it competes in Division 2B, which puts it in 25th place in Europe out of 41.

In 2011, the Rugby World Cup will be staged in New Zealand. Forthe European zone, the Six Nations teams and the first two sides in Division 1 automatically qualify. A European team takes part in a playoff against the African finals qualifiers in order to take part in the final phase. Due to not having won the Division 3A in 2008/201, Switzerland has already been eliminated from qualification for the 2011 World Cup.
