Rugby Association of the Canton of Vaud

The Rugby Association of the Canton of Vaud (AVR) was formed in 1984. It is one of the 4 regional associations that are members of the Swiss Rugby Union (FSR).

Its aim is to promote the development of Rugby Football within the Canton, to support the activities of its members and to represent their interests with respect to the FSR, to the cantonal authorities and to their other partners.

As at June 2004, it had 319 registered players, of which 168 were seniors, 22 juniors,9 women and 208 young persons from rugby-playing schools. As the number of players in schools had quadrupled since the year 2000, currently this has led to further growth. In fact, at the end of 2008, we were able to announce that we had 517 registered players, of which 382 were seniors, 28 women, 107 juniors and some 412 players from schools or a total of 929 members, which is a figure that we are delighted to say is constantly growing.

The Canton of Vaud has a great rugby history and since the founding of the Association we have won a significant number of trophies.

In 2008, RC Nyon won the National League A Championship and the Swiss Cup was won by RC Yverdon. In National League B Stade Lausanne were winners of the trophy, whilst LUC took 4th place in League C. Vaudois rugby is in great shape and it deserves all of the energy that the AVR invests in it. At the heart of our efforts is the desire to pass on our values to our young people.
