19 March in Nyon: Swiss rugby party around Switzerland-Andorra

Within the European Championship (Division 2B) Switzerland welcome Andorra at Stade de Colovray in Nyon this Saturday 19 March (3pm), and their aim is to get at least four points. The tight group is currently lead by the Andorrans ahead of the Swiss who have a game in hand.

Christophe Secat, manager

On 5 and 6 March the national team trained in Magglingen to prepare for the match against Andorra. Currently ranked second, the national team can quite rightly believe in their chances to being promoted to group 2A.

The majority of players in the Swiss squad are playing for Swiss clubs in the domestic championship, added to this are players from French clubs (level fédéral and espoirs). These young players intend to show their commitment and the efforts they put into the national team, with the aim to not only win but also to show the full range of rugby, making it a spectacle to watch for the fans, and all this put into place by national coach Philip Filiatre

We are counting on the support of all Swiss rugby fans helping us to turn this important game of rugby into a great party.

The morning of the same day the Fédération Suisse de Rugby (FSR) will hold its annual meeting of delegates, with representatives of all clubs and rugby schools, at the Nyon Council chambers. Lead by caretaker president Peter Schüpbach, the Central Committee will present its annual report for the financial year 2010 and its plans for 2011.

At the same time another stage of Swiss Rugby Sevens take place at the Stade Colovray (until 2pm), for seniors and women. After two rounds (of four) RC Würenlos and GC Zürich are equal first. The four rounds determine which teams will qualify for the final tournament which takes place on 2 July, as curtain raiser for the Swiss Cup Final. In the Ladies’ competition Red Devils Bern are leading the table, after the first round (of three) at Greifensee (near Zurich). The final tournament will be taking place in Winterthur on 25 June.

This exciting programme is a great opportunity to watch this game in its various aspects – at 15 and 7 players – and we hope many of you will come to support the Swiss team and all the players.
